Brock Lesnar isn’t a guy who enjoys being away from his family. That’s why he left the WWE. He was tired of the travel and the hectic schedule and that’s why he walked away from the nice paydays from Vince McMahon. Now that Lesnar is in the last fight of his current UFC contract there have been rumors that Lesnar could walk away from MMA should he lose to Overeem in December.
Two year ago Lesnar was on top of the world and was the UFC heavyweight champion. Now after two bouts with diverticulitis you have to wonder how much more Lesnar has in him. Right now he is training in Minnesota at Death Clutch with Cole Konrad and Jon Madsen preparing for Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem. Should Lesnar come out on top at UFC 141 he would face Junior Dos Santos who currently holds the gold. But should he not defeat Overeem would Lesnar want to stick around if he’s not going to fight for the title? A loss could put him in a rematch with Cain Velasquez which could be appealing but given Lesnar’s track record he could walk away. A rematch with Frank Mir could get his attention but with Lesnar you don’t know if he wants to devote several months of his life to a training camp anymore.
Lesnar has plenty of money and seemed to have mended fences with the WWE where he could go back from time to time like The Rock has done to get a big payday. I honestly don’t think Lesnar’s future is with the UFC or the WWE but on his farm in the Midwest. Sure he might pop in and cash a big check from the WWE after a Wrestlemania appearance but this is a guy who doesn’t like the cameras or fans.
We will have to see how it shakes out later this month when Lesnar meets Overeem in Las Vegas to determine the new #1 contender but I belive Lesnar’s future isn’t in MMA.
