It was a crazy night last night Newark with eye pokes and injuries. UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones broke his big toe on his left foot during his fight with Chael Sonnen when he pushed off of it really hard. Jones discovered the injury during the postfight interview with Joe Rogan. The injury was so severe that the bone actually broke through the skin.

It’s not yet known how long ‘Bones’ will be out of action but I would imagine we will see him back in the Octagon sometime later this year.

Had the fight been stopped due to the injury Sonnen would’ve been awarded the belt despite the fact that he was getting beat up by Jones for most of the first round.

Chael Sonnen had his chance to shock the world tonight in Newark New Jersey at UFC 159. After accepting a fight with Jon Jones on just 8 days notice after Dan Henerson abruptly pulled out of the fight with Jones at UFC 151. The event was canceled and Jones looks like a heel for not taking the fight against the brash middleweight. But Dana White saw an opportunity and made the two men coaches on TUF 17. Jones and Sonnen coached against each other with the brash Oregon native coming out on top. But tonight at the Prudential Center Sonnen had to back up all the talking he had done for the past 6 months.

Did Sonnen shock the MMA world and dethrone the champ or did Jones pick up another easy win to extend his reign as champion. It was a fun fight. Check out the video below.

Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones are on weight and the fight is a go for tomorrow night at UFC 159. It’s interesting to see how disinterested Jones is in engaging Sonnen. He looked down instead of right into his eyes like 90% of the fighters in the UFC do. We’ll see how it shakes out tomorrow night when the two men finally get into the octagon.

Count Jon Jones as one of the many people who were offended by Matt Mitrione’s comments about transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox. As we all know Mitrione ruffled the UFC’s feathers by speaking out about Fox a few weeks ago on the MMA Hour. He was suspended by Dana White for his remarks for an indefinite amount of time and fined by the promotion as well.

According to Jones in a recent interview with MMAJunkie;

“People like Matt Mitrione are scumbags. He’s a scumbag. I don’t care if he’s off suspension or doesn’t fight again. He’s a ridiculous person. He needs to shut his mouth. That’s how I feel about that kid. He’s scum.”

I’m not sure I agree with Mitrione’s comments but a person born a man does have advantages over a person born a female in a fight. But that’s for the Athletic Commissions to sort out.

Man, Jon Jones doesn’t mince any words when talking about the challenger for his UFC light heavyweight title, Chael Sonnen. He is right in a way. Sonnen used his mouth to get the fight and that’s something that doesn’t sit too well with the champ. Sonnen hasn’t fought at 205 in years but some how has talked himself into a title shot even after getting knocked out by Anderson Silva in his last outing.

According to Jones;

“He’s not a champion. He’s not made out of championship stuff. He just wants that spotlight. He wants that opportunity. He wants that big fight, and I’m gonna give him what he wants. I will defeat Chael Sonnen in an extremely devastating fashion.”

I do hope that Sonnen can hang with Jones to keep it interesting Jones really hasn’t been tested and seems to toy with guys at times. We will find out next month if Sonnen does have what it takes.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is going to walk down the aisle in the very near future. He will be walking down the aisle to face his nemesis Chael Sonnen next month but he will also be marrying his longtime girlfriend and mother of his children, Jessie Moses.

‘Bones’ tweeted the news yesterday.

BREAKING NEWS!! Icing on the cake.

The couple have been together for several years and have three daughters together. Jon and Jessie began dating in high school and have weathered the storm from his DUI last year that seemed to only make their relationship stronger.

No word on when they will be officially tying the knot but it’s good to see the champ happy and engaged.

Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones will step into the octagon next month to decide who the man really is after months of trash talk from the former #1 middleweight contender. Sonnen is a pretty big underdog on paper but if you talk to his coach Greg Jackson Chael P. presents a lot of problems for the champ.

According to Jackson in a recent BloodyElbow interview.

There are a lot of danger zones with Chael. Chael is tougher than a lot of people give him credit for. When we didn’t want to fight him on three days notice or whatever, we’d never fight anybody on such short notice for somebody at Jon Jones level. People think he doesn’t have any punching power, but then you see him drop Anderson Silva. Once he gets on top of you, it’s trouble, and a lot of guys can’t seem to get around that ground and pound style, so if you don’t do things correctly with him, you get in trouble real quick.

We have to make sure we take him very seriously. He’s a very tough opponent and he’s very smart. He’s going to try to negate the length and push the fight forward, and we have to be ready for that. We have to be ready for a 25 minute, all out war. He’s going to try to wear Jon down with his cardio. We have to be ready for all of those eventualities to make sure that Jon is on point and ready and can execute his gameplan. It’s not going to be an easy fight.

Sonnen gave Anderson Silva fits with his wrestling but Jones is a much better wrestler than ‘The Spider’. Jones will have a definitive reach advantage but if the fight goes to the ground and Sonnen gets on top anything is possible. We’ll see how it shakes out next month.

Jon Jones never misses the opportunity to come across as a smug and out of touch individual. He has a way of making himself out to be some larger than life figure when in reality he is just getting started in his career. Don’t get me wrong he is very talented but his attitude could be his downfall and the reason the fans are rebelling against him.

“The DWI obviously, I learned from that, I’ve grown from that and I’m a better man because of it. Wiser, stronger, smarter because of all that stuff. Tough year, fun year, crazy year. Lost some sleep some nights, celebrated some nights … too much, but it was life. I lived another year. I’m alive to see 2013 and I’m blessed and I’m grateful.

Me and Dana are on good terms. I don’t think we’ve ever been on better terms. I think he looks at me as a young man who has respect for himself, who stands up for certain things, who has a backbone and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. I owe it to myself to be that way. At the same time, I’m here for the company, I’m here for the business and I’m here for the fans. I’m just trying to do everything right for myself and for the people around me.”

You knew it was coming and it finally did. UFC President Dana White has summoned light heavyweight champ Jon Jones to Vegas to meet with him and Lorenzo Fertitta after his DWI arrest last week. White told the Boston Herald that Jones could go down as one of the greatest of all time but had to figure out which road he would choose to go down.

“It’s really sitting down and figuring out what is it you want to do. You’re 24 years old, you could be a force in this sport for the next 10 years and go down as the greatest ever – beat everybody, do all this stuff, be the first guy to break through and get a Nike deal, the first guy to get Gatorade and all these other things. Do you want to be that guy or do you want to go the other way? You can go the other way, too, and you can be the total bad guy, make a few million here or there and then go tell everybody to go, ‘(Expletive) off.’ It’s no different whether it’s the UFC, boxing, the NBA, the NFL – it’s the guys who really focus and get their (stuff) together no matter how old you are, whether you’re 21 or 31. That’s what we’ve got to figure out where Jones is at and what he wants to do.”

Poor Jon Jones. He’s been through a lot with the trash talk that came from Rashad Evans before their fight last weekend. Talking to MMA Live Jones asks Henderson to keep it classy and to refrain from talking smack.

“As far as Dan Henderson, I’m excited about [him], he’s a great fighter. You know, I’ve gone through a lot with Rashad as far as all of the trash talking and I really hope Dan’s listening and I really hope that Dan keeps it classy throughout this fight. I respect him as an older man, I respect him as a warrior and I just hope he keeps it classy and not drag me through another trash-talking bout. Let’s stick to why we’re really here, let’s just fight.”

‘Hendo’ is usually pretty mild mannered and doesn’t say a lot so Jones may get his wish this time.
